TRANING

Even pugs need training, believe it or not ;-).

4 Valuable Methods of Pug House Training
Successful training depends a lot on how much a dog desires his (or her) master's approval, pugs strife to please their owners and will do everything to to gain approval, which makes pug owners very fortunate.
If you’re a proud owner of a pug you’ll most likely have to address the inevitable housebreaking issue sooner or later, and the sooner the better. Because of a pugs generally more stubborn demeanor, pug house training has often been regarded as a trying and interminable process, but it doesn’t mean it has to be this way for you and your furry friend.
If your pug is still a puppy under 12 weeks of age and not yet able to hold her urge, she can still get adapted to the process early on. Take her outside to her designated spot for 15-20 minute segments, every 2 hours. Each time she relieves herself outside praise and reward her.

There are several popular techniques for pug house training outlined below that all have been proven effective. As always, if you would like success with any training process, consistency is key. For that reason, what it largely comes down to is which methods suit your schedule and lifestyle.

If you are rearley Home

Paper Training
This method involves using paper such as old newspapers or purchasing scented pretreated pads and placing them in the area you’d like your pug to do her business.

Initially, you will gently take her and place her on the papers or pad when she begins to circle and sniff the floor or display other signals of having to go. When she starts to use the papers or pad successfully on her own, gradually place them nearer and nearer to the door until they are no longer required. You may also place one outside during the transitioning, in the area you decide upon. Remember to give her lots of praise each time she relieves herself on the paper or pads.

If you are sometimes home

Crate Training
If you choose to incorporate this as your pug house training method, be sure to provide your pug with a crate just big enough for her to comfortably stand and turn around in. The concept behind crate training is to teach your pug that she is able to control her urge to go. She’ll realize that when she needs to relieve herself she doesn’t have to right in that instant and eventually she won’t. This is because like us, your pug wants a clean and cozy space to dwell in and won’t want to lay in the mess.

If you are usually home

Bell Training

Pugs are often regarded as an intelligent breed of dogs and one method of pug house training, is to utilize bells. Suspend bells from the door that leads out to your backyard or wherever your pug’s area to go may be. Gently guide her paw in repeatedly touching the bells hanging from the door. Take her to her spot immediately, thereafter. She will eventually associate that when she taps on the bells, she will be taken outside to relieve herself. To successfully incorporate this method, you must keep an ear out and be receptive to her ringing. Otherwise, she will try to alert you with barking or simply go wherever she pleases.

Schedule Based Training (SBT)

The SBT technique teaches your pug to relieve herself on a routine basis. By applying the understanding that it generally requires 4-6 hours for your pug to digest meals, (5 being a good medium) you schedule potty times accordingly. On one hand this pug house training method is unique in that it does not require any supplies to implement but do keep in mind that pugs dislike change and variance especially when it involves their feeding times. If success in the shortest time possible is what you are aiming for, make sure someone can assist with the routine if you need to be elsewhere, sticking to the schedule is crucial
